At least four people, including two women, have sustained injuries as a gang of robbers attacked a house in Gazariapara area under Gazipur city early Saturday.
The injured are Delwar Hossain, former UP member, his son Sohag Hasan and his two daughters in-law.
According to the victim family members, a gang of 15-16 masked robbers stormed into the house of Delwar, broke the collapsible gate and doors at dead of night.
They tied the family members and started looting valuables. At one stage, they hacked Delwar and Sohag as they were trying to resist the robbers. The robbers also assaulted the daughters-in-law of Delwar while they were trying to stop the armed gang, said witnesses.
Hearing the cries, locals rushed in and took the injured to Gazipur Sadar Hospital. Later, they shifted to Dhaka Medical Collge Hospital in critical condition.
Officer-in-Charge of Jaydevpur police station M Kamruzzaman said: “The robbers left the scene when the locals gathered in front of the house. The process of filing case and arresting the criminals was underway.”
He suspected that the incident was a “planned one” and the robbers were of the same area.
Family members claimed that the gang has looted a gun, about 100 tolas of gold and valuables worth Tk3 lakh.
