105kg gold seized at Shahjalal airport

Customs intelligence officials have recovered 904 pieces of gold bars weighing 105kg at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport on Saturday afternoon.

The gold bars were seized from the toilet of a Biman Bangladesh Airlines flight from Dubai around 2:30pm. NBR Chairman Golam Hossain in the press conference said: “Each bar weighs 10 tolas and estimated price of the gold bars is TK48 crore.”

He said: “MD Anisuddin Bhuiya, an employee of the civil aviation, has been arrested in connection to the matter.”

2 Juba League men killed in Benapole

Two Juba League activists have been killed in a factional clash between two groups of Juba League at Baropota under Benapole port police station at around 10am on Saturday.

The dead were identified as Iman Ali, 35, son of Anis Uddin, of Shibnathpur and Lalon Mia, 26, son of Majed Ali, of Uttar Baropota under Benapole port police station.

Both are the activists of Juba League, youth front of the ruling party.

Apurba Hasan, officer-in-charge, of Benapole port police station told newsmen that the two were killed following establishing supremacy between two groups of terrorists over sharing of money earned from smuggling from the port area.

The bodies were taken to Jessore Medical College Hospital for postmortem.

Three snatchers lynched in Gazipur

Three snatchers have been killed in a lynch mob action at Sohadia village of Shreepur upazila early Saturday. Of the deceased, one was identified as Nurul Islam, 27, son of Abul Hossain of Sohadia village. Shreepur police station Officer-in-Charge Mohsinul Kadir confirmed the Dhaka Tribune about the deaths. “Villagers chased the snatchers while they were trying to hijack a motorcycle. Later, the villagers captured the snatchers at Sohadia village and beaten them to death on the spot,” said the OC. Police recovered the bodies in the morning.

Stop terrorism jointly, PM to Saarc countries

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has reiterated her call to the Saarc member countries for united efforts to stop terrorism, arms smuggling and women and children trafficking and stamp out poverty from the region.

The PM made the urge when cabinet secretaries and officials of equivalent status of Saarc countries called on her at her Gonobhaban residence here on Saturday.

PM's special assistance Mahbubul Hoque Shakil has briefed the reporters after the call.

Cabinet secretaries of eight Saarc countries are now in Dhaka to attend a two-day meeting from April 26-27.
