4-lane highway: Tender in next month

A tender will be floated for the constructing of a four-lane 70km highway project in Joydevpur-Chandra-Tangail-Alenga, within the next month, Communications Minister Obaidul Quader said.

The minister made the disclosure while visiting the Alenga Highway in the district on Saturday afternoon.

He said the Tk3066 crore four-lane project, which would be the only corridor to communicate directly with the North Bengal Region, has been approved by ACNECK in April 23, 2013.

The project “South Asia Subregional Economic Cooperation (SASEC) Road Connectivity Project: Improvement Of Joydevpur-Chandra-Tangail-Elenga to a 4 lane Highway,” has been taken in order to develop the internal communication with the North Bengal region and to develop the communication with the neighboring countries, he added.

The minister further said: “The two-lane highway will be upgraded into a four-lane one and five flyovers, 26 bridges and 60 culverts will be built under the project. Separate lanes for the slow-plying vehicles will also be included.”
