An employee of a volunteer organisation has been beaten to death by some local criminals in the capital’s Bonoshree area on Friday morning.
The deceased has been identified as Ruhul Amin Khan, 50, joint secretary of volunteer service organisation Dakkhin Bangla Ekota Songha. He hailed from Babuganj upazila in Barisal district and a resident of South Bonoshree in Khilgaon.
Police and family members of the deceased said Ruhul was killed following a previous dispute with some people from his previous work place Fatema Foundation.
Mohammad Rasel, assistant organising secretary of Dakkhin Bangla Ekota Songha, said: “Rahul was a defaulter of an amount of money to his previous working place Fatema Foundation. Some people of that organisation beat him up following an altercation inside our office around 7pm.”
“A group of people of the Fatema Foundation stormed the office of Dakkhin Bangla Ekota Songha and beat him up mercilessly that caused his death”, he said.
Police have detained two of the killers, including one Ashiq, said Rasel.
Ruhul succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment at the Dhaka Medical College and Hospital around 5am.
Ruhul's brother-in-law Kamal Hossain said: “Some 12 people, including Alauddin, Tawhid and Salauddin swooped on Ruhul Amin when he was at his office.”
Khilgaon police station Sub-Inspector Monir Hossain said they have detained two people in this connection.
