Yaba dealer held after 'gunfight'

Police have nabbed a bullet-riddled Rohingya yaba dealer with 2,000 pieces of yaba tablets after a 'gunfight' with police at Alikhali area in Hila union under Teknaf upazila on Wednesday night.

The detainee has been identified as Syed Nur, 26, son of late Muhammad Sultan of Rohingya camp in Leda area of Hila union.

Three policemen -- ASI Jainal Abedin and constables Jasim Uddin and Mahmudul Haque -- have received injuries in the 'gunfight'.

Police have also recovered a locally made gun, 2 rounds of cartridge and 3 rounds of cartridge shells from the spot.

Teknaf Model police station Officer-in-Charge Ranjit Kumar Barua said: “Police rushed to the spot after receiving information about yaba smuggling. Sensing the presence of the law enforcers, the yaba peddlers started firing, forcing them to fire back which triggered a gunfight”.

“Later, police recovered Syed in bullet-riddled condition from the spot. He has been sent to local clinic for treatment” he added.
