Some 10 journalists including their camerapersons were injured in an attack by the intern doctors at Rajshahi Medical College Hospital (RMCH) on Sunday night.
The injured are Abrar Shahir of Channel24 and its cameraperson Raihan, Salauddin of Daily Sonar Desh, Masud of Masranga television, Jafar Iqbal Liton of Independent Television, Rubel of ATN News and cameraperson Russel of Jamuna Television.
Of them, cameraperson Raihan has been referred to Dhaka for better treatment.
Police and hospital sources said some intern doctors and attendants locked into clash following the death of a patient of ward No 13 around 10:30pm.
At a stage of the clash, some journalists accompanied by their camerapersons rushed to the hospital. Suddenly, the intern doctors attacked the journalists and camerapersons with iron rods and hockey sticks.
Meanwhile, they snatched and vandalised the cameras of the journalists. The attackers also confined two on-duty journalists Abrar Shair and his cameraperson Raihan in a room.
On information RMCH Governing Body Chairman Fazley Hossain Badsha, MP, Ayen Uddin, MP, Mayor of Rajshahi Mosaddique Hossain Bulbul and RMP Commissioner Barrister Mahbubur Rahman visited the spot.
Condemning the attack on journalists, they demanded exemplary punishment to the culprits.
The local administration has withdrawn Officer-in-Charge of Boalia police station Saidur Rahman for his negligence in duty.
