A robber was killed in a “gunfight” with police in Ramu rubber garden area on Cox's Bazar-Naikkhangchhari road on Sunday night.
Five members of police were injured including Ramu police station Assistant Sub-inspector Milton Dey with bullet wounds.
The deceased was identified as Faridul Alam, 30, son of Abu Siddique, of Nandakhali village.
Injured constables Sumon, Sharif, Rupayan Barua and Ansar Laltu Mia were admitted to Ramu upazila health complex.
ASI Milton was first admitted to Cox's Bazar sadar hospital and later shifted to Chittagong Medical College Hospital.
Appela Raju Naha, officer-in-charge of Ramu police station, said a gang of robbers put barricade when a patrol police team reached Ramu rubber garden area around 9:30pm.
“The robbers fired on police as the law enforcers tried to capture them triggering a “gunfight” between them,” he said.
Faridul Alam was injured in the “gunfight.”
Later, police conducted drive along with Faridul to detain the other gang members.
Faridul succumbed to his injuries during the drive, OC Appela Raju said.
