A woman has killed her three-year-old daughter and later committed suicide following a row with her husband in Gurudaspur upazila, Natore.
The dead were Piara Begum, 40, wife of Khalilur Rahman from the upazila, and her daughter Rumana Khatun, 3, police said.
Piara was married to Khalilur Rahman as his second wife eight years ago, her father Samsher Ali said. Quarrels soon followed with the first wife.
Piara handed over Tk3 lakh to her husband asking him to buy a separate land where she and her daughter can leave in peace, he said.
After everything was done accordingly, it was unearthed that Khalilur purchased the 22 decimal land by his own name, Samsher said.
This instigated a family feud between the husband and wife, Gurudaspur police station Officer-in-Charge Faridul Islam said.
“On Saturday, Piara fed tablets to her daughter and ate them herself. Locals rushed them to Batrire Adgybuj Sadar Hospital where they succumbed around 9pm.”
Father Samsher lodged a suicide-encouragement case against the now-absconding husband Khalilur Rahman afterward, the official added.
