Another youth has been detained with possession of Indian currency worth Rs80 lakh from near the capital's airport in Uttara area.

Mohammad Alauddin, 30, was detained by a frisk team of Airport Police Station at Kosaibari area around 1pm on Sunday, officials said.

Uttara division police Deputy Commissioner Nisarul Arif said the currency was seized after the youth was frisked at a police outpost.

“The youth has claimed that he was given the bag and asked to carry it to another person,” he said without specifying any further.

In response to a relevant query, Deputy Commissioner Nisarul Arif said they were investigating whether the currency was smuggled in.

“The detainee said a woman gave him the bag,” he said. “However, the details of the woman is yet to be known.”
