Three people have received bullet injuries during a “gunfight” between tow factions of Lakshmipur Sadar upazila Jubo League on Sunday morning.
The injured are JL activists Ibrahim Khalil Bablu, 40, and Anwar Hossain, 36, and hotel employee Abdul Mannan, 25.
The injured were admitted at Lakshmipur Sadar Hospital. Later, Mannan has been shifted to Noakhali General hospital as his condition deteriorated.
Daserhat police camp In-charge Mojammel Haque said there was a long-standing dispute between Sadar upazila(east) JL convener Morshed Alam and Charshahi union JL joint convener Shahadat Hossain over establishing supremacy in the upazila.
He said: “Morshed's supporters Anwar and Bablu were taking foods at a local hotel. Suddenly, some 10-12 JL men led by Shahadat entered there and attacked them.
At one stage of chase and counter chase,Shahadat group oped fire that left Bablu, Anwar and hotel staff Mannan injured,” he added.
Locals said Morshed's brother Bablu beat up one of Shahadat's supporters on Saturday night over privious enmity.
Later, Shahadat group launched the attack in order to take revenge, said local JL members.
While contacted, Morshed said: “Shahadat's people attacked my brother as he refused to give extortion.”
Denying the allegation, Shahadat said: “As Bablu beat up my people, some of the assaulted activists engaged in a chase and counter chase with Morshed's supporters.”
