The work order for construction of the much-talked about Padma Multipurpose Bridge will be awarded soon to start construction work on priority basis.
Communications Minister Obaidul Quader said this while visiting the project area at Mawa Ghat in Munshiganj on Saturday, reports BSS.
"The construction work of the Padma Bridge will be visible this year, as the work order will be awarded soon to start construction on priority basis," he said.
Quader said the construction work of the main portion of the bridge would begin in June to fulfil people's hopes and aspirations.
During the visit, Planning Minister AHM Mostafa Kamal said there is no financial problem for construction of the Padma Bridge.
"We are working to implement the dream project by constructing the bridge within the next three and a half years," he said.
Kamal also said the government has already allocated Tk 2,042 crore for construction of the Padma Bridge; the bridge will be constructed under five packages.
Later, both the ministers visited Kawrakandi in Madaripur area and discussed various issues relating to construction of the bridge at a meeting.
