Foreign Minister Abul Hassan Mahmood Ali has recalled the invaluable contribution of the diplomats during the glorious war of liberation in 1971.
The minister said this while addressing the discussion meeting at his office to commemorate the "First hoisting of the Bangladesh National Flag" outside Bangladesh territory at Kolkata mission on 18 April, 1971, reports BSS.
“The diplomats had defected from Pakistan administration and expressed allegiance towards a sovereign Bangladesh during the liberation war of Bangladesh in 1971,” Mahmood Ali said.
“The diplomats had taken incalculable risk not only on their own life and career but also on the lives of their next of kin living in the war-torn Bangladesh at that time,” the minister said.
He added that it was time to take initiatives to preserve the authentic history of the war of liberation fought on the diplomatic front in 1971.
Ambassador Waliur Rahman, Ambassador Kazi Nazrul Islam, and senior diplomats Anwar Hosain Chowdhury, Md Akbar Lutful Matin, Amjadul Huq, Mostafizur Rahman and Jolly Ahmed, daughter of late Ambassador M Hossain Ali, were among others present at the discussion meeting.
