Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has rescued 29 Bangladeshis from Charer Math area near Putkhali frontier while they were being trafficked to India on Friday night.
The rescued people, including 15 women and one child, were reportedly hailed from Jessore, Khulna, Bagerhat, Satkhira, Narail and Gopalgonj districts, said BGB members.
Farid Uddin, commanding officer of BGB 29, said: “Acting on a tip-off, BGB men raided the area and held when they were taken to a field in order to be trafficked to India in the night.”
“Sensing our presence, the traffickers fled the scene,” he said.
Benapole port police station Officer-in-Charge Apurba Hasan said the victims were handed over to the police. A case has been lodged in this connection.
