At least 180 people, who fell victim to the crime of human trafficking, are on the way to home from Iran, reported human rights organisation Rights Jessore.
The information has been disclosed at an advocacy meeting with journalists on “Action for Combating Trafficking in-persons (ACT)” at the conference room of Rights Jessore office on Friday afternoon.
ACT Programme Coordinator Shah Mohammad Azharul Islam, while presenting the key note during the meeting, said: “The 180 people, who have been illegally sent to Iran as labourers, are taken under police custody after initiatives taken by Bangladesh government.
A total of 215 trafficked people were repatriated under the ACT programme carried out by Rights Jessore in last two years,” he added.
The meeting was attended among others by Ahsan Kabir, general secretary, Jessore Press Club, Tauhidur Rahman, ex-secretary, Saifur Rahman Saif, Tauhid Zaman, Sarwar Hossain, Razek Jahangir, Saiful Islam Sazal and BM Faruk.
