Train communications with Chittagong resumed nearly 11 hours after four bogies of a container train derailed in Nangalkot upazila, Comilla early on Saturday.
The derailment took place near Nangalkot Railway Station around 1:30am, Bangladesh Railway Assistant Director Sayedur Rahman told the Dhaka Tribune.
The cause of the derailment could not be ascertained but the official assured that it was not because of any sabotage-related activities.
The lines were cleared after a rescue operation around 11:40am, he added. Train communications are now normal but two carriages remained astray.
Lalmonirhat-Bonarpara trains resume
The Lalmonirhat-Bonarpara rail link resumed seven hours after two carriages of a train derailed in Chelopara, Bogra town on Friday night.
Railway links through Bogra, Gaibandha, Kurigram, Lalmonirhat and Rangpur were suspended overnight, Dhaka Tribune Bogra Correspondent Hasibur Rahman Bilu reported.
A rescue train removed the carriages and the lines were restored on Saturday morning, Bogra Railway Station GRP Officer-in-Charge Bimal Kumar Chaki said.
