Tuku: Highest directives for law enforcers

Update : 14 Dec 2013, 08:30 AM

Law enforcement agencies were given “highest directives” to keep law and order situation under control, junior Home Minister Shamshul Hoque Tuku said.

The statement was made to Dhaka Tribune after holding a nearly three hour long closed- door meeting with chiefs of the law enforcement agencies at the ministry.

The meeting was held Saturday, a public holiday, in wake of the recent violence after execution of Jamaat-e-Islami leader Quader Molla ahead of January 5 polls.

The meeting took place with director generals of BGB and Rab, Inspector General of Police, chiefs of NSI, special branch and senior Home Secretary CQK Mostaque Ahmed.

State minister Tuku later talked to Dhaka Tribune after the meeting.

“The law enforcement agencies have been given the highest orders to keep the law and order of the country under control,” he said.

Regarding his Pabna house set on fire, the minister said: “Sabotage will not help save the war criminals nor will it hold off the national elections.”

“The verdict of one war criminal has been executed. Those of others will follow,” he said.

A nationwide spate of violence broke out after the execution of “Butcher of Mirpur” Abdul Quader Molla on Thursday. Several people were killed.

Meanwhile, over a hundred people have died in the violence arising from disagreement between two main political parties over how the elections will take place.
