The Ganajagaran Mancha on Friday renewed its call for ban on Jamaat-e-Islami, one of whose top leaders was hanged the night before for war crimes.
From a rally at its home in the capital’s Shahbaghintersection in the afternoon, the mancha also urged the government to execute the verdicts against all the convicted war criminals in the quickest possible time.
The mancha also denounced the role of some countries, foreign organisations and media houses, who the platform claimed were portraying the war crimes trial wrongly.
Speakers at the rally said these countries and organisations played similar roles during the Liberation War 42 years ago.
Noted writer Shahriar Kabir said: “The trial [of war crimes] is not a political agenda. It is what the people of this country demand and expect.”
Also present at the rally, development activist Khushi Kabir said:“We have to uphold the achievements and continue with the trend of development.”
She also said in order to uphold the goalsset by the Liberation War, the country needed to be free from the war criminals.
Ganajagaran Mancha spokesperson Imran H Sarkar said:“This [execution of Molla] is only a primary victory in the second struggle for liberation, which the young generation has achieved. We still have a long way to go.”
