Police arrested 10 people at Monirampur upazila in Jessore on Saturday night for their alleged involvement in a clash between law enforcers and picketers at Begaritala on Saturday, the first day of the 72-hour blockade.
Three police men and several others were injured during the clash.
A case was lodged with Monirampur police station accusing over 1,200 BNP-Jamaat men.
Later, combined forces comprising police, Rapid Action Battalion and Border Guard of Bangladesh personnel conducted a raid at Chalkidanga village and arrested 10 people.
Meanwhile, Syed Saberul Haque Sabu, general secretary of Jessore district unit BNP, alleged that the combined forces harassed innocent people at several villages of Monirampur in the name of a drive.
Master Noor-un-Nabi, secretary of Jessore district unit Jamaat-e-Islami, alleged that the combined forces tortured several people at Chalkidanga village.
“The forces beat up at least 50 innocent people, including women, and looted 10 tolas of gold, cash and valuables and ransacked televisions, computers and furniture worth Tk4m,” he said.
The law enforcers also vandalised five shops, two motorbikes and a microbus during the raid, he added.
Reshma Sharmin, assistant superintendent of police, however, denied the allegation of 18-party leaders.
At least 10 people were arrested during the operation, she said.
Asked about torture and looting, she said: “I did not hear such information.”
