Chittagong rail link with Dhaka and Sylhet snapped Monday morning after three carriages of a container train derailed in Akhaura upazila of Brahmanbaria.
Bangladesh Railways Assistant Director Sayedur Rahman told Dhaka Tribune two carriages derailed in Gangasagar area at around 8:20am.
“Reason behind the derailment can be said after investigation,” he said.
Chittagong Divisional Railway Manager SM Murad Hossain told Dhaka Tribune three carriages derailed between Akhaura and Gangasagar railway stations.
A rescue train is on the way to the spot and it will take at least three hours to restore the lines, he said. “I am headed there myself.”
Train schedules are expected to be hampered because of the derailment, the officials said.
