The parliament on Monday passed the Bangladesh Travel Agency (Registration and Control) Bill, 2013 to establish a registration authority for ensuring transparency and skilled management of travel agencies.
Civil Aviation and Tourism Minister Muhammad Faruque Khan moved the bill in the House.
When the new law will come into force, nobody would be able to run a travel agency without having a valid registration certificate. If anybody violates the law he/she would have to face a maximum imprisonment of six months and a fine of Tk50,000, reports BSS.
With the passage of the bill, the existing Bangladesh Travel Agency (Registration and Control) Ordinance would be scrapped.
Besides, three bills were placed in the parliament for bringing further amendments to the relevant laws. The bills were- Comilla University (Amendment) Bill, 2013, Barisal University (Amendment) Bill, 2013 and Vitamin-A Enriched Edible Oil Bill, 2013.
Parliamentary standing committees on Legal Aid (Amendment) Bill, 2013 and third report on the Ministry of Liberation War Affairs were placed in the House.
Posts and Telecommunications Minister Adv. Sahara Khatun placed the annual report of Bangladesh Telecommunications Regulatory Commission for 2012-13 in the Jatiya Sangsad.
Earlier, the sitting of the Jatiya Sangsad resumed at 4.44 pm yesterday after a 10-day of recess with Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury in the chair.
