The government will provide 47 enterprises with the National Export Trophy for 2010-11 fiscal in recognition of their respective contribution to the country’s export trade.
Of the trophies, gold medals would be given to 20 enterprises, silver for 15 and bronze for 11, and another gold trophy to the highest export earner, officials at the Export Promotion Bureau said.
“The EPB will award 47 institutions for their contribution to export earnings,” Shubhashis Bose, vice-chairman of EPB told the Dhaka Tribune on Tuesday.
“It is the recognition of their performance and it is aimed at encouraging the exporters to boost exports.”
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is expected to hand over the trophies and certificates to award winners at Osmani Memorial Auditorium on November 20, he added.
As per laws, 82 trophy were supposed to be given to the exporters of 27 sector under three categories – gold, silver and bronze – for 2010-11, but the number of qualified applicants was less, according to a commerce ministry statement.
A total of 45 exporters were awarded the trophy for 2009-10.
The sectors are readymade garments (RMG), knitwear, all kinds of threads, textile fabrics, home and specialised textiles, frozen food, raw jute, jute products, leather, leather products, footwear, agro products, agro processing products, flower-foliage, handmade industrial products, melamine and plastic products, ceramic products, light engineering products, electric and electronic products, other industrial products, medicines, other chemical products, computer software and other.
In the last fiscal year, Bangladesh’s export earning stood at US$27bn last fiscal year and the country set an export target of $30.5bn for the current fiscal year.
