Chittagong was in festival mood despite around three out of every five residents spending the six-day long Eid holiday with relatives in their village homes, according to city corporation and district administration sources.
People crowded several different recreational locations in the port city after Eid day, with amusement parks and recreational centres reporting high numbers of visitors.
Md Rafiq-ul-Alam, president of Patenga Sea Beach Shop Owners’ Co-operative Association, said Eid visitors were outnumbering regular visitors by four or five to one.
Chittagong Zoo sources said the attraction had seen a three-fold increase on its usual numbers of around 1,500 people daily for the occasion of the Eid. A huge number of people also gathered at the Naval Academy to enjoy the view of Karnaphuli river estuary and the Butterfly Park.
The children’s parks at Agrabad, Kazir Dewri and Bahaddar Hat were also busy, due to their lower Tk40 to Tk60 as entry fees. Outside the city, residents of adjoining upazilas gathered in local entertainment places like Sitakunda Eco Park, Mahamaya in Mirsarai, and the tea gardens in Fatikchhari upazila.
