Bangladesh will be second destination of Queen’s Baton, the emblem of Commonwealth Games, as the baton of the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games arrives at the capital tomorrow.
On October 9, 2013 the Queen's Baton Relay was launched at Buckingham Palace, at a ceremony where Her Majesty The Queen placed Her message to the Commonwealth into the baton. India was the first destination and Bangladesh will be the second as the Glasgow 2014 Queen's Baton Relay, the curtain-raiser to the XX Commonwealth Games starts to go around the world. Over a period of 288 days the baton will visit 70 nations and territories, cover 190,000 kilometres and involve a third of the world's population, making it the world's most engaging relay.
After its arrival in Bangladesh, the baton will move through the capital and the British High Commissioner will receive it in his High Commission office. Louise Martin and Louis Rosa Rebecca Hill will accompany the baton.
In a press conference held at the BOA auditorium yesterday Syed Shahed Reza, the secretary general of Bangladesh Olympic Association said Commonwealth Games gold winning shooter Asif Hossain Khan along with Abdullah hel Baki and Sadia Sulatna will be the athletes involved in the relay. Sheikh Bashir Ahmed, Kazi Razivuddin Ahmed Chapal and Rafikul Islam were also present on the occasion.
