BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia on Monday said those who were engaged in demonstrations demanding the cancellation of the quota system for public service recruitment, will get government jobs in the future if her party assumes power.
She came up with the announcement while addressing an iftar party hosted by Islami Oikkyajote in the city.
Extending her full support for the anti-quota protestors, she said: “We will find who was involved with the movement by watching camera footage and issue them government jobs if we assume the power.”
The former prime minister said: “BNP will stage peaceful movements after Eid if the government fails to introduce a non-partisan poll-time government.”
Leaders and activists of BNP-led 18-party alliance were present at the iftar party, among others.
Earlier on July 18, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said her government would not issue any government jobs to the BCS quota agitators.
“We have the pictures. We’ll place them with the Public Service Commission before the viva-voce examinations so these notorious elements can’t get government jobs,” she said.
She questioned the merit of students who demonstrated against the quota system, engaging in vandalism.
A large number of government job-seekers staged demonstrations, and vandalised vehicles and various structures, demanding the cancellation of the quota reserved for freedom fighters and their dependents.
