The academic activities in Jhinaidah Polytechnic Institute have all but ceased due to the inadequate number of teachers available at the institution.
Close to 36 teachers are supposed to teach throughout four disciplines, where only eight have been taking classes for the last couple of years.
Most of the classes are being taken by teachers hired from outside the institution. Practical classes, which are very important in disciplines such as computer technology, electrical technology, environmental science and civil engineering, are also being conducted by the visiting teachers, alleged the students.
They also claimed that the authorities have been running classes for around 1,100 students, throughout four sessions, in two shifts every day, but most of the time there are no teachers to give lessons in the classes.
Some freshman students claimed, even though they are scheduled to attend four classes every day they barely ever have two, which is making matters uncertain for them.
Md Munir Hossain, the Principal of the institute, said they have to hire teachers from outside as they have not been provided an adequate number of teachers despite having informed the Directorate of Technical Education about it.
