Fahmida Nabi is one of the most popular singers in the country in recent times. The Prominent singer who was one of the judges of recently held popular musical reality show Close-Up 1, shares her experiences and opinions of the talent hunt show with Dhaka Tribune:
‘Close-Up 1 Tomakei Khujche Bangladesh’ declared the winners of this season. Are you happy with the result?
The selection of Close-Up one winners are mainly based on public polls, but for me, my Close-Up one winner is Ritu, aside from that, I think all of them are very talented singers and given the opportunity and right guidance, they will surely prosper. Every year many fresh talents are discovered through reality shows, but they fade away afterwards. Why does this happen?
And what can be done to prevent it?
Well, recently they are not fading away that often, but are promoted on TV. They are also releasing albums, which are seldom up to the mark. The lack of audience appeal and the inability to touch their heart is what making these nouveau singers fade away.
There is a lack of sufficient institutions where the students and new talents can learn voice grooming and sound delivery, many of them are not well versed in musical or cultural background. They have to know more about culture and learn to think in depth about these matters. Self discovery is crucial at this point of the new talents.
What is the key to success in your opinion?
I have been involved with the media for a long time now, it took gargantuan amount of effort to reach where I am today and cement the position. Hard work is the key to success in every sphere of life and it doesn’t end there – you have to keep pushing boundaries and continuous effort is required to stay in the limelight.
I believe in there is no end to learning. We learn by experiencing things, and there is always more to experience, right around the corner.
What are you working on now?
Today, I’m launching my latest album, “Ei Bhalobasha” at the premises of Bengal Foundation. “Jao Chole,” “Ei Bhalobasha,” and “Amar Koshto Gulo” are my favourite songs in the album. The music has been directed by Limon and Al – Amin is the lyricist.
Right now I am working on my next solo album titled “Ami Palte Jaini.” Almost 50% of the work is done and hopefully, it’ll be released by eid-ul-azha.
The talented and evergreen singer is the winner of the National Film Award for Best Female Playback Singer in 2007 for her song "Lukochuri Lukochuri Golpo" from the Bengali Film "AHA."
