Dhaka to honor Indian soldiers killed in '71: Inu

Information Minister Hasanul Haq Inu said Dhaka would give honorary recognition to the Indian soldiers killed in the Bangladesh Liberation War in 1971.

He came up with the announcement during a meeting with Indian Information and Broadcasting Minister Manish Tewari in New Delhi on Thursday.

Inu also sought a list of the Indian soldiers killed in the liberation war for the purpose. He stressed the need for research on those soldiers.

A total of 8,000 Indian soldiers made supreme sacrifice during the Bangladesh liberation war.

After the about two-hour meeting, the information minister told BSS that he had fruitful talks with his Indian counterpart on information and broadcasting, film production and achieve development.

He requested the Indian authorities allow airing of Bangladesh television channels in India. The Indian minister assured him of all cooperation in this regard.

They agreed to make a joint-venture film on the political and diplomatic dimensions of Bangladesh liberation war.

In reply to a proposal on screening Indian film in Bangladesh, Inu said that there should a balance between the films of the two countries. He sought Indian assistance for development of Bangladeshi film industry.

The Information minister said India has agreed to extend cooperation in construction of Bangladesh Film Institute and modernization of achieves.

Bangladesh Deputy High Commissioner Mahbub Saleh, Press Minister Enamul Haq Chowdhury and Information Ministry Joint Secretary Harunur Rashid were present in the meeting.
