Bangladesh seeks UK visa office in Dhaka

Update : 14 Mar 2016, 09:05 PM

Bangladesh has sought the British government’s initiative to bring back its visa office to Dhaka from New Delhi to help boost people-to-people contact and business ties between the two countries.

Commerce Minister Tofail Ahmed raised the issue when British High Commissioner in Dhaka Alison Blake met him at his Secretariat office yesterday.

“The British visa office had been operating in Dhaka since Bangladesh’s independence, but it was suddenly shifted to New Delhi 18 months ago. As a result, Bangladeshi visa seekers, especially the businesspeople, are facing difficulties,” said the commerce minister.

He sought cooperation of the British high commissioner in bringing back the visa office in Dhaka, according to a PID handout. They also discussed airport security and investment issues during the meeting.

Tofail laid emphasis on boosting trade and investment between the two countries. “At present, there’s no risk in investment in Bangladesh. Any investment here is 100% safe.”
