The rebranding of the state-run mobile operator, Teletalk, with its new logo started in the capital yesterday.
Tarana Halim, state minister for Post and Telecommunications, formally unveiled the new logo of Teletalk at the International Convention City, Bashundhara.
Foyzur Rahman Chowdhury, secretary, Post and Telecommunications Division, Dr Shahjahan Mahmood, chairman, BTRC, and Gias Uddin Ahmed, managing director of Teletalk, were present on the occasion.
Teletalk will move forwared with its new slogan “Shopno Hashimukher” (Connect to happiness). The government has taken the initiative to turn the mobile operator into a profitable organisation.
Since its inception in 2005, Teletalk failed to make any profit as yet.
After assuming office as the State Minister for Telecommunications, Tarana Halim repeatedly announced that the government would take up rebranding plan for making the company vibrant.
She said: “our target is to provide service for our people as it is our phone. Today we began a new journey with Teletalk.”
“To emerge as a leading market player in the country’s mobile industry, we made this change to introducing an appropriate model to Teletalk.”
This change will help Teletalk operate the company perfectly, added Tarana.
Recently, the junior minister visited Singapore and Malaysia to gather experience and observe the two countries’ state-run telecom business.
She discussed the issue with their telecommunications ministers and sought advices from them.
Recently, the state minister expressed her dissatisfaction in the Parliament over the operator’s TK3.99 billion loss.
Earlier, Teletalk Managing Director Gias Uddin Ahmed told the Dhaka Tribune that they are planning to invest TK4,600 crore for expansion of its 3G network across the country and the roll-out of 4G next year.
