Update : 10 Feb 2016, 12:08 PM

A mobile court accompanied by RAB 2 has found a 16-month-old dead baby on life support in the capital's Japan Bangladesh Friendship Hospital.

The mobile court led by Executive Magistrate Md Helal Uddin conducted the drive along with RAB 2 personnel at the private hospital in the capital's Jigatola and fined it Tk1,150,000 for not fulfilling three other major criteria, including keeping unauthorised drugs and issuing diagnostic reports without any expert's authorisation.

Dr Mohammad Shahjahan, one of the members of the mobile court, told the Dhaka Tribune: “We began the drive around 11:45am Wednesday. At one stage of our operation, we reached the 5th floor of the hospital and found the mother of the baby girl waiting outside the ICU.

“She came to us and alleged that the hospital authorities are not giving any clear information regarding the health condition of her daughter. Based on her allegation, we forcefully entered inside the ICU and found the baby was already dead.”

“For further confirmation, I took the stethoscope and checked the heartbeats of the baby. But she was found to have no heartbeat. Later, I asked the duty doctor to check again. The doctor confirmed that she was already dead by the time,” he added.

However, the hospital authorities claimed that they did not notice when the baby died.

Mother of the girl, Sourabh Binte Islam, told the Dhaka Tribune: “I knocked the doctors several times to know about the latest physical condition of my daughter, suspecting something was wrong.

“But, they were not letting me know anything clear. Rather, they took my signature on four papers which did not contain any details of my baby's health condition.”

When contacted, Hospital CEO Dr RM Samiul Hasan refused to make any comment over the issue.

He said: “I cannot make any comment over the issue before consulting the doctor concerned as it is a specialised matter.”

Abdullah Nehal of Narayanganj's Panchabati admitted her daughter to the hospital on Monday night after she was experiencing breathing problem.
