Security has been beefed up for Bangladesh High Commission officials in Islamabad following harassment of an embassy official on Monday.
Bangladesh High Commissioner to Pakistan Suhrab Hosain told the Dhaka Tribune: “Yes, necessary security has been provided.”
He, however, did not elaborate.
Personal Officer of Press Section of the Bangladesh High Commission in Pakistan Jahangir Hossain was harassed by plainclothesmen in Islamabad on Monday evening .
Jahangir was detained for about seven hours.
Suhrab Hosain contacted the Pakistan chief of protocol, law enforcing agencies, dean of the diplomatic corps and others to rescue Jahangir.
Meanwhile, Bangladesh mission in Karachi did not ask for any additional security.
Deputy Chief of Mission in Karachi Noor-e Helal Saifur Rahman said: “We are okay with security. We have not requested for any additional security.”
He said they did not feel any problem and had a meeting with the officials of Pakistan Foreign Ministry Karachi office on Tuesday.
Seven Bangladeshi officials and six Pakistan staff were working in Karachi mission.
Here in Dhaka, Diplomatic Security Zone Deputy Commission Mohammad Ataul Kibria told the Dhaka Tribune that he did not receive any request from anybody to beef up security of Pakistan High Commission in Bangladesh.
The incident of Jahangir Hosain added fuel to fire to the strained relationship between Bangladesh and Pakistan.
Awami League after coming to power in 2009 took the initiative to try war criminals and since then the distance between the two countries grew bigger.
After the execution of Salahuddin Quader CHowdhury and Ali Ahsan Mohammad Muzahid in November, Pakistan issued a statement which Bangladesh strongly protested.
Bangladesh in December asked Pakistan to withdraw one of its high commission officials on the ground of her involvement in terrorist financing.
In retaliation, Pakistan also asked Bangladesh to withdraw one of its officials from Islamabad but did not cite any reason.
