Planning Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal yesterday said Chittagong city would be developed to such an extent that people would find it difficult to recognise the city after three years.
The minister also stressed the need for building tunnel, LNG terminal, special economic zone, Matarbari Energy Hub, deep sea port, Chittagong-Cox’s Bazar rail link and eco-friendly ship-building industry in Chittagong.
The minister made the comment while addressing an international business seminar held at Radisson Blu in the city. Chittagong Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCCI) organised the seminar as a part of observing its five-day centenary programme beginning from January 28.
“Different mega projects, including Liquefied Natural Gas Terminal, economic zones, power plant and Karnaphuli Tunnel, have been undertaken,” said the minister.
The CCCI President Mahbubul Alamb chaired the international seminar where Saludin Kasem Khan, managing director of AK Khan Group, presented the keynote paper titled ‘The Bay of Bengal growth triangle and the maritime silk route.’
In his paper, Salauddin presented the prospects and prospective sectors of investment in Chittagong.
The seminar was also addressed by Canadian High Commissioner to Bangladesh Benoit Pierre Laramee, the Bengal Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Kolkata President Sutanu Ghosh, FBCCI first Vice-President Shafiul Islam Mohiuddin, Senior Representative of Japan International Cooperation Agency Hitoshi ARA and ADB Country Director Oleg Tonkonojenkov.
