A case has been filed accusing 300 people of setting fire to the Alauddin Khan cultural centre in Brahmanbaria two days ago.
The secretary of Alauddin Sangeetangon, Abdul Mannan, filed the case with Sadar police station around 1am Thursday. All 300 accused are unidentified.
The Alauddin Sangeetangon organisation oversees the museum of the world famous Sarod maestro who is credited with revamping the Maihar gharana.
In a sequel to a previous altercation, unruly madrasa students vandalised the museum on Tuesday afternoon and then set it ablaze.
Who was Alauddin Khan?
Alauddin Khan (ca. 1862 – 6 September 1972), born in Nabinagar upazila, Brahmanbaria district, was a Bengali sarod maestro, multi-instrumentalist, composer and one of the most renowned teachers of Indian classical music in the 20th century.
A musician at the court of Maharaja Brijnath Singh, he is credited with the reorganisation of the Maihar gharana and for creating many new ragas.
He was the father of sarod maestro Ali Akbar Khan and Annapurna Devi, and the uncle of Raja Hossain Khan, as well as the guru of Ravi Shankar, Nikhil Banerjee, Vasant Rai, Pannalal Ghosh, Bahadur Khan, Sharan Rani, Jotin Bhattacharya and other influential musicians.
He himself was a disciple of celebrated Veena player, Wazir Khan, chief musician of the nawab of Rampur and one of the last direct descendants of the legendary Tansen.
He was first inspired to learn the sarod after attending a performance by his first music teacher, Ahmed Ali Khan, a student of Amjad Ali Khan's granduncle Asghar Ali Khan.
