The International Crimes Tribunal has received the full verdict of war crimes convict Delawar Hossain Sayedee's appeal case that commuted his death sentence to jail until death.
Tribunal Registrar Shahidul Alam Jhinuk said that the tribunal had sent a copy of the full judgement, released on December 31, to the IG prisons. “It will also be sent to the Dhaka district magistrate,” he added.
Both the prosecution and the defence lawyers said that they would challenge the judgement after getting the copy.
The five-member Appellate Division bench delivered the short verdict on September 17, 2014. Three judges commuted the sentence, one upheld the death penalty and the other acquitted him of all the eight proven charges.
Earlier, the tribunal sentenced Sayedee, known as “Deilya Razakar” in 1971, to death on February 28, 2013 on charges of killing Ibrahim Kutti and one Bishabali in Pirojpur during the Liberation War, and for setting fire to Hindu households.
The prosecution said they would seek death penalty for Sayedee on the six proven charges in which the tribunal did not give any sentence.
