Bangladesh has reassured Britain that the government had undertaken stringent measures to guarantee the safety and security of its people along with the foreign nationals living in the country.
Foreign Minister AH Mahmood Ali during his talks with British counterpart Philip Hammond Wednesday made the comment.
Both of them met at the sideline of Commonwealth Foreign Ministers’ meeting in Malta.
Mahmood Ali told Hammond that the overall security situation in Bangladesh was good.
He said that on the basis of those apprehended and the intelligence gathered, it was evident that the recent crimes were committed by local extremists and no external connections could be found, said a press release of the foreign ministry.
The UK foreign minister in the meeting expressed his deep concern at the rise of violent extremism in various parts of the world.
He particularly mentioned that ISIL and Al-Qaeda were aspiring to operate beyond their traditional grounds.
He added that all countries had to be vigilant against this common threat.
The UK Minister offered to extend necessary support to enhance capacities in these areas.
At the end, Mahmood Ali invited his UK counterpart to visit Bangladesh at his convenience which he readily accepted.
