A decade long Anti Corruption Commission (ACC) probe has cleared Cox’s Bazar 4 lawmaker Abdur Rahman Bodi of graft allegedly committed during his tenure as mayor of Teknaf municipality from 2001 to 2005.
A letter signed by ACC Secretary Abu Md Mustafa Kamal clearing Bodi’s name was sent out to related authorities, a commission source said.
The anti-graft body began its graft inquiry against Bodi in 2004.
Allegations that Bodi, then Engineer Latifur Rahman and then Ward 9 Commissioner Ismail were involved in tender manipulation in a Teknaf municipality revenue and development project were made to the commission in 2004.
Although it began in December 2004, the probe lay idle in the Pending Matters and Inspection Department of the commission for a long period of time.
The commission recently ordered ACC Chittagong District Office 2 to complete the inquiry, appointing Assistant Director Moniruzzaman as the inquiry official.
Moniruzzaman’s report to the commission cleared Bodi’s name, saying it found no proof that the lawmaker was involved in graft, a source said.
Although cleared of graft, Bodi is under trial for amassing wealth worth Tk6.33 crore illegally.
The charge sheet for the illegal wealth case was submitted to the court by ACC Deputy Director Monjur Morshed.
