Update : 02 Nov 2015, 05:15 AM

The Supreme Court has fixed November 17 for hearings on the petitions filed by Jamaat leader Ali Ahsan Mohammad Mujahid and BNP leader Salauddin Quader Chowdhury pleading to review its order that upheld death penalties for their crimes against humanity in 1971.

A four-member bench of the Appellate Division led by Chief Justice Surendra Kumar Sinha set the new date for the hearing on Monday.

The court also disposed Salauddin Quader Chowdhury plea filed seeking a Supreme Court order to summon eight defence witnesses, including five Pakistani nationals.

It was claimed in the petition that Salauddin Quader was not in the country from March 29, 1971 to April 1974, and the eight persons want to give depositions in favour of the claim.

Both Mujahid and Salauddin filed their review pleas on October 14.

The International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) 2 on July 17, 2013, sentenced Mujahid to death. The ICT 1 sentenced Salauddin to death on October 1, 2013.

Mujahid filed an appeal with the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court on August 12, 2013, and Salauddin lodged appeal against his sentence on October 29, 2013.

On June 16, 2015, the Appellate Division delivered its judgement, upholding death for the Jamaat secretary general. Salauddin too could not escape as the Appellate Division upheld maximum punishment for him on July 29, 2015.

The Apex Court on September 30 released the full verdict of their appeals on October 1 and the ICT 1 issued death warrants against them.
