Update : 29 Oct 2015, 09:24 PM

The Ant-Corruption Commission (ACC) yesterday approved a charge sheet against two officials of two private firms after acquitting five Bangladesh Telecommunications Company Limited (BTCL) officials in a Tk44.96 crore embezzlement case.

The two are Ipower Communication Private Limited Director Maksudul Latif Mithu and Raj Tech Limited Managing Director Hasibul Bashar.

The charge sheet was approved by the commission at its regular meeting, said ACC Public Relations Officer Pranab Kumar Bhattacharya.

The BTCL officials whose names were dropped are its Deputy Project Director Mahfuzur Rahman, Director Mahbubur Rahman, Deputy Director Abdul Halim, former managing director and member (finance) Dr Abu Said Khan and former regional engineer AKM Asaduzzaman.

On November 5, 2012, the case was filed against seven people, including the five BTCL officials, with Ramna police station.

The case statement said Singapore-based company Ipower Communication Private Limited misappropriated Tk44.96 crore between April 2010 and October 2011 with the connivance of the five BTCL officials.

An investigation was launched and after three years, Jahangir Alam, the commission’s deputy director and also the investigating officer, recommended that the five BTCL officials be acquitted of the charge.
