The turnout of the visitors in the national income tax fair 2015 was poor yesterday than the previous days due to the daylong downpour in the capital and elsewhere in the country.
The central venue located at Dhaka Officers’ Club premises also failed to attract much crowd yesterday as the rain started in the early morning and continued till evening.
At the end of the day, the tax authorities had served 1,08,859 people across the country, which is lowest since Friday last.
Many taxpayers were seen roaming in the fair venue disappointedly as their necessary documents for the income tax return submission were wet during the rainfall.
Taxpayers alleged that tax officials were not helping them properly because of their wet papers. Najnin Alam, a teacher from Gulshan, alleged that the tax officials in the booths were not accepting wet papers.
“So, I had to fill up the return form once again by analysing the last-year ones.”
Braving the bad weather, a good number of people, however, rushed to the fair to avoid much crowd, but they were also disappointed yesterday.
“I thought there would be no crowd at the fair amid bad weather, so I came here in the morning but still there was huge crowed. This may be little comparing to other days, but for me, the number of people quite good that shows the success of the fair,” said Motiur Rahman, an official of private bank.
The National Board of Revenue (NBR) yesterday collected over Tk241 crore from the fair through collection of 20,988 income tax returns at the fairs held at seven divisional headquarters, 51 districts, and 16 upazilas across the country.
In the first five days of the fair, the NBR mobilised over Tk1,338 crore, which is 22% higher from the same period of last year.
