“We have removed Anwar Hossain from the post of assistant proctor and hope that the campus situation will be normal by today,” CU Registrar Professor Dr Mohammad Kamrul Huda to the Dhaka Tribune on Monday.
The academic activities at Chittagong University (CU) had remained halted on Sunday as a faction of CU BCL called an indefinite blockade of the campus to press home a five-point demand including the immediate arrest of the killers of BCL leader Diaz.
BCL suspended their non-stop blockade immediately after the university's announcement, while vowing to continue with rallies, human chains and other programmes.
"We have suspended our blockade as the university authorities have met one of our demands and have assured us of meeting the others,” CU BCL unit Vice-President Shovon Das Shuvo said.
Diaz Irfan, the assistant secretary of the BCL central committee and also the former joint secretary of BCL CU unit, was found dead in his flat located near CU Gate No 2 on November 20.
After the incident, family members and fellow BCL activists claimed it was a preplanned murder by his rivals.
A case was filed with a Chittagong court on Thursday accusing 10 persons including CU Assistant Proctor Anwar Hossain and CU BCL President Alamgir Tipu.
Diaz and Tipu were both blessed by Chittagong City Corporation (CCC) mayor, also Awami League (AL) city unit General Secretary, AJM Nasir Uddin.
The first autopsy report of Diaz said he committed suicide by hanging himself but family members rejected the claim and demanded a second autopsy.
