Road Communication and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader yesterday home-bound people would not suffer on highways while going to their native homes to celebrate the upcoming Eid-ul-Fitr.
Engineer, contractors and sub-engineers of respective areas would not be spared if people suffered during their travel, the minister said at Chandra intersection, Gazipur after visiting the Dhaka-Tangail Highway.
The four lane development project of Joydebpur-Elenga on Dhaka–Tangail Highway would start in September and tender process for this project has already completed. “The work order has already been issued for the project following the tender process,” he added.
He said this year road condition was better than any time in the past year. He said: “We have to repair roads throughout year, not only three months in a year. Then, communication system will be smooth for people.”
The minister said upgrading of Nabinagar-Baipail-Uttara road into four-lane was not being possible because of land requisition problems as there are residential houses, mosques, madrasas and other establishments beside the road. He, however, said a 22-kilometer elevated expressway would be constructed over this road.
Obaidul Quader said the Prime minister Sheikh Hasina would inaugurate Rangpur four-lane road, Araihazar Thanchi road via Alikadam to Cox’s Bazar and Birulia Bridge in seven days through video conference.
The formal inauguration of four-lane Dhaka-Mymensingh highway will take place in two months, he added.
