Update : 24 Jun 2015, 05:35 AM

Bangladeshi origin award-winning US-based broadcast journalist Tasmin Mahfuz has received The Gracies Awards for her outstanding contribution to journalism.

The award ceremony took place at Hotel Hilton in New York on Monday.

Tasmin was presented with her award by NBC News correspondent Tamron Hall for her outstanding performance as TV news producer.

After receiving the award, the Southern Utah Bureau Chief at ABC 4 Utah, Tasmin, tweeted: “Feeling blessed to win a Gracie Award.”

The Gracie Awards are an American award ceremony.

Established in 1975, the annual Gracies Awards celebrates the accomplishments of women in media in the US.

They celebrate and honour programming created for women, by women, and about women, as well as individuals who have made exemplary contributions in electronic media and affiliates.

Tasmin's father Abdul Wahid hailed from Chittagong. He migrated to the United States 35 years ago.

Tasmin was born and raised in West Palm Beach, Florida.

She is a graduate of Emory University in International Studies and also has a master's degree in Legal Studies. After graduation, Tasmin completed a two-year internship at the United Nations.

She started her broadcasting career in television from a young age.

Her mother, Nazmun Mahfuz, produced, shot, hosted and edited two weekly television shows for South Florida's PBS and cable television. Tasmin learned the basics of TV and would often host segments of the shows.
