The members of Detective Branch of Police have detained three persons for their alleged involvement in black marketing the commodities of TCB from the capital's Kafrul area.
The detainees are Mamun, manager of a wholesale store, Rupam Traders, its staff member Jahid and Kamal Ahmed, owner of a shop in the capital's Bhashantek area.
DB Assistant Commissioner (Mirpur Zone) Mohorom Ali told the Dhaka Tribune: “Acting on information, a team of DB police picked three persons up from Kafrul area around 8:45pm Monday for their involvement in black marketing TCB foodstuffs.
“The DB members could not detain Jahangir Hossain, a TCB dealer and also the owner of Rupam Traders, as he is on run since the drive was conducted.”
The DB members also recovered 1956 liters of soybean oil, 2650Kgs of suger, 350kgs of chickpea and 80kgs of dates from the two stores.
“The packets of the seized foodstuffs were containing the seal of Trading Corporation of Bangladesh. The DB members also seized a truck, which was used for distributing the commodities,” added the DB high-up.
A case has also been filed in this connection.
Mohorom Ali further said: “As per the rule, the selling of TCB foodstuffs starts around 9am and continues till 5pm. But, Jahangir used to open his selling point just for one hour everyday.
“He used to store all the TCB foodstuffs instead of selling those to underprivileged people and Kamal used to buy those product for his store.”
The detectives are suspecting that some TCB officials and staff are involved with the scam.
“We are investigating the issue and quizzing the detainees,” added the DB officials.
