India-Bangladesh test resumes

Update : 10 Jun 2015, 04:06 AM

The one-off test match between India and Bangladesh, which was halted due to the rain, resumed.

Shikhar Dhawan hit a battling half-century as India made a strong start against the Tigers before rain halted the play in Fatullah.

Dhawan was dropped just before the rain arrived.

Murali Vijay is complementing his partner with a solid hand in the one-off Test against Bangladesh.

Both the openers look set and have added 107 runs in 23.3 overs. The bowling looked pretty ordinary in the first session.

With no Mashrafe Mortaza, Rubel Hossain or Taskin Ahmed, the hosts are still struggling for their first breakthrough.

If these two continue to score at the same pace later on, then India might get a huge first innings total.

Earlier in the day, in his first match as India's full-time captain, Virat Kohli won the toss and chose to bat first.

Kohli showed a desperation to win on what looked like a good batting pitch, and also showed enough trust in his five specialist batsmen, choosing two specialist spinners and three quicks.

“We will bat first, looks like a pretty nice and hard wicket. It's the beginning of the full-time job, pretty excited, hopefully, we can put up a strong performance. I never thought I will be India's Test captain at 26. God has been kind, I have worked hard, at the end of the day, I have the opportunity to do something special for the team.”

Harbhajan Singh, who last played a Test in 2012-13, has made his come back in the match.

Bangladesh's captain, Mushfiqur Rahim, earlier suggested India might have won an important toss.

“Looks like a flat track, but as the Test progresses, it will become slower. Unlucky to lose the toss, but we need to restrict them to a modest score. We are playing three spinners plus Shakib. We played well against Pakistan, the boys are very confident. We are looking forward to a good Test.”

He picked three spinners in his XI, and expected the pitch to help spinners depending, the extent and timing of it depending on the amount of sun it takes.
