Bangladesh has recently been identified as one of the most pro-capitalist nations in the world and the most pro-capitalist among developing countries, according to a recent sentiment survey.
The survey by Pew Research Centre looked into people’s attitudes toward inequality-related issues in 44 countries including Bangladesh.
Out of the 44 countries surveyed, which included India, China, US, and UK, Bangladesh ranked second only to Vietnam in terms of support for the free market system.
Bangladesh was listed as the most pro-capitalist of the nine developing countries in the survey (Vietnam, the only country with stronger support for free markets, is categorised as an emerging country by the survey).
Eighty percent, or four in every five, of surveyed people in Bangladesh expressed their support for free markets.
This contrasts with 72% in India and 70% in the US.
This was despite the fact that they are also very concerned about the rising gap between the rich and the poor.
They survey found they prefer the free market system better because they believe its benefits outweigh the cost of income inequality.
In addition, 71% of the surveyed people in Bangladesh also expressed their optimism about the earning capacity of the next generation, which placed Bangladesh as the fourth most optimistic country among the 44 surveyed countries, after Vietnam, China, and Chile.
