Earthen pots installed on trees in JU for birds safe shelter

JU's bird habitats were disrupted by construction

Update : 09 Nov 2024, 05:35 PM

As part of an eco-friendly initiative, leaders and activists of the student unit of Jahangirnagar University (JU) Chaatra Dal have installed earthen pots on various trees across the campus to provide safe nesting spots for birds.

On Saturday afternoon, they tied the pots to the trees along the banks of the ‘Main Bird’ lake adjacent to the university's old registrar's office.

Regarding this initiative, Chhatra Dal leader Mahbubur Rahman Murad said that Jahangirnagar University, known across Bangladesh as a sanctuary for wildlife due to its natural beauty, is facing habitat disruptions for birds due to the clearing of dense vegetation and the rapid construction of buildings.

This small effort by the JU student wing aims to provide a comfortable and secure habitat, especially during the upcoming breeding season for birds such as mynas, starlings, magpies, and sparrows.

A few days ago, volunteers from the Batighar Adarsha Library installed clay pots on trees across Tangail to provide safe bird shelters.
