The government is allocating Tk12,390 crore in agriculture sector in the national budget for fiscal 2014-15.
In his budget speech, Finance Minister AMA Muhith mentioned that subsidies for fertilizer, seeds, irrigation and other agricultural inputs would continue.
The government will give special emphasis on innovation and use of organic technology and genetic engineering.
Muhith said the Awami Leauge-led government took a number of steps for the development of agriculture sector including keeping the fertilizer price within the affordability of farmers.
The government also provided facilities for opening bank account with a deposit of Tk10 only for the farmers.
“Storage capacity of food go-downs has been enhanced for the development of the agriculture sector,” the finance minister said.
