As November enters its fifth day, light drizzles have begun across Dhaka, with forecasts suggesting continued rainfall throughout various districts in Bangladesh, potentially harming winter crops.
Last month, heavy rains triggered floods across the Mymensingh Division, affecting areas such as Sherpur, Haluaghat, Dhobaura in Mymensingh, and several regions in Netrokona.
This flooding severely damaged the agricultural yield in these areas, and with Nabanna (harvest season) approaching, many farmers may not be able to bring ripe paddy home.
Consequently, experts worry this could drive up rice prices.
Crops such as potatoes, eggplants, cauliflowers, turnips, radishes, and carrots may also be affected if the drizzles continue, with prices of winter vegetables expected to increase.
Light rainfall typically benefits vegetable crops, but excessive rain can lead to waterlogging, which damages the produce.
Rainfall exceeding 20 millimeters is particularly risky, as standing water harms crops.
