The government has decided to increase the prices of urea, DAP, TSP and MOP, and other fertilizers by Tk5 per kg.
"In view of the ongoing global economic situation, the sale price of fertilizer has been revised to keep the import of fertilizers at a reasonable level,” said a notification signed by Sheikh Badiul Alam, deputy chief for fertilizer management and monitoring at the Ministry of Agriculture on Monday,
The new prices came into effect on Monday, said the notification.
At dealer level, urea fertilizer price is set at Tk25 per kg, DAP at Tk19, TSP at Tk25 and MOP at Tk18 per kg.
At the farmer level, the price of urea is set at Tk27 per kg, DAP Tk21, TSP Tk27 and MOP Tk20 per kg.
On April 3, Agriculture Minister Dr Muhammad Abdur Razzaque said the government had no plan to raise the prices of fertilizers in the coming years.
“The prices of fertilizers will not increase further and the government will ensure that the farmers get enough fertilizers,” he said while talking to reporters after attending the meeting of National Coordination and Advisory Committee on fertilizer at the Secretariat.
“We won't allow any crisis to be created over fertilizer for the continuation of food production and the government will take measures so that the farmers would not face any harassment. If they (farmers) face any harassment regarding fertilizer we will see poor crop production,” he said.
