Avijit murder prime accused killed in Dhaka 'gunfight'

The deceased is Sharif alias Hadi. He was a member of Ansarullah Bangla Team. DMP Deputy Commissioner Masudur Rahman confirmed the matter to the Dhaka Tribune. He said Sharif and two of his accomplices were passing through Meradia area on a motorcycle early Sunday. “They opened fire at DB police when the law enforcers challenged them,” he added. In retaliation, DB police fired back resulting Sharif sustaining bullet injuries. Later, Sharif was declared dead when taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital around 4am. The others, however, managed to flee the scene. On May 19, Dhaka Metropolitan Police had announced Tk5 lakh bounty on Sharif. Former Buet teacher Avijit Roy, also founder of Mukto-Mona blog, was hacked to death by assailants near TSC on February 26, 2015.
